January 30, 2013 in RISE Worldwide

Well, it’s not EXACTLY a television show but that doesn’t make it less awesome. “Detroit Rubber” is a YouTube series that follows Rick Williams and Ro Spit, the proprietors of the now world famous Burn Rubber sneaker boutique…

    • Righchus Is Not Stingy With The Hoes Plus Three Other Reasons To Watch His “Campaign” Video.

October 11, 2012 in RISE Worldwide

So my homie Righchus has just released his newest video for his song “Campaign” which was featured on his most recent mixtape “Black Cradles“. This is definitely one of my favorite tracks on the project, and as someone that has heard damn never EVERY word released by Righchus, this first verse is easily one of my favorites from him. Like, EVER. Why is that? Let me grab a couple of quotes from his first verse for you to digest: First, before the song can get going Righchus hits us with the “BG’s back!” chant. +1 for the Hot Boyz reference. “Y’all make music to make money. I make music for my champagne.” – I don’t exactly know what that means although I’m inclined to believe that he doesn’t need rap to pay his utilities or cell phone bill but rather to pay for his expensive champagne habit. That’s some boss shit. Rick Ross (whom he references later in this verse) would be proud. “The Righchus, young mogul. My Office, ain’t oval. Now bounce on my stick like pogo. Then pass it to my dog like Toto.” – So much to glean from these lines but the most important thing is [...]

    • Stranger Day Was “Born A Problem” And A Fan Of Crunk Ass Brunch Gatherings.

October 10, 2012 in RISE Worldwide

I don’t think I’ve wanted to be a  part of a video shoot this bad since  Master P‘s “Make Em Say Uggh” joint where they were playing basketball one a gold plated court while rocking leather jerseys. While my loyalty to the No Limit tank has definitely decreased over the years, my love for brunch and all things brunch related has steadily increased. Apparently the Charlotte based MC Stranger Day feels the same way (about brunch–not sure about his feelings towards Master P) and thankfully he has obliged us all with a #BrunchLife themed presentation for his new video for the track entitled “Born A Problem“. Where I live (Charleston, South Carolina) brunch is a super, mega, big deal. Sunday mid-mornings in the Holy City where seeming made for eating shrimp and grits while sipping mimosas. The food associated with this meal is only matched by the fun times had while thuggin’ it out with turkey bacon and croissants. It’s an epic meal in which conversation seems to be the main course, with the food being a happy by-product of the gathering. Am I waxing too poetically about brunch? You could say that. Either way, “Born A Problem” will most [...]

    • VIDEO: Watch The New Matrimoney Eyewear Collection Video featuring Brek Shea.

August 29, 2012 in RISE Worldwide

I was sorta, kinda joking when I said I’m only posting the video lookbooks that were as expertly done as Jiberish’s Fall 2012 joint. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the high quality assets I’ve been sent since that declaration. After posting that sweet video from Texas based Loyal K.N.G., I have yet another clip from a brand from the Lone Star state. Matriomoney is becoming a force in the Texas streetwear scene. The last time I featured something by them, they had recruited Michael Crabtree from the San Francisco 49ers (more notably of Texas Tech) to model some of their gear. Now they’ve brought along Major League Soccer star and US Men’s National Team member Brek Shea to showcase their new eyewear collection and join the MTRMNY movement. There are SEVEN (yup, you read correctly) styles (Genavese, Czars, Santoros, Lennys, Rothschilds, Kennedys, and Winstons) and they are all available right now via the Matriomoney online store.  I wish I didn’t have such a big head or I’d certainly be rocking a couple pairs of these bad boys. Please believe it!

Their Fall 2012 video lookbook is just another reason I jock them so hard. Fellow street culture enthusiast, please take notes from one of the games hidden Masters because THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A VIDEO LOOKBOOK! After you take notes, make sure you tell Jiberish via Twitter how awesome this was. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it. P.S. – I also like how they show how actual outdoor activities are the inspiration behind their Fall line. Lends a bit more credibility to the collection. Or maybe that’s just me. #KanyeShrug

    • “GRIND” by Miika Lommi AKA Decatur Dan Needs To Re-Make This Video With The Twerk Team (NSFW).

June 23, 2012 in RISE Worldwide

I’m so memorized by this video and the possiblities of what it could be if they had some gals with big Southern booties doing this that I’m not even going to try to write any catchy or clever comments. I’m going to leave you with these two things: 1) Decatur Dan needs to remake this video with the Atlanta based booty shaking All-Stars known as the Twerk Team and 2) the description as it was sent to me– Directed and edited by Miikka Lommi and featuring dancers from the Dance Hall troupe House Of Queens Grind takes the hyper sexual and oft time absurd movements found within the genre and slows them to a snails pace. The results provide a unique look at the both the athletic and aesthetic properties of the genre. The video debuted at KIASMA at the exhibition Thank You For The Music held earlier in the year in Finland. Dancehall Queen Style is a Jamaican dance fashion which became popular in the 1990s through music videos and The Grind show on MTV. The video is a playful take on the dancehall culture with its provocative costumes, suggestive poses, roles and blatant sexuality. Originally GRIND was made for Art gallery/-museum KIASMA and exhibition “Thank you for the [...]

    • The H1GHER Audio/Visual Club present “Facebook Sucks Monkey Balls”.

June 8, 2012 in RISE Worldwide

So a couple days ago tweeted that I was going to be deleting the H1GHER LEARNING Facebook fan page. While I’ve already started the process, because Facebook’s pimp hand is way strong, I have to wait almost TWO WEEKS before the deed is actually done. My plan was to write a post about the subsequent deletion–discussing my reasons why I chose to do this and what not. But in the middle of writing it, I just lost interest. Not in explaining myself but rather the act of writing the post. So with that in mind, I whipped out my old Kodak Zi8 handheld and decided to TALK about it. Be forewarned, the quality isn’t the best (I shot this video on the device’s next to last resolution setting just to make sure it would work AND I don’t have a tripod yet) but I think it’s a pretty good start. Oh, and I don’t ACTUALLY think Facebook as a staff and a company sucks monkey balls. It’s just for my brand, maintaining a Fan Page just didn’t seem to be worth the effort. In this video I briefly discuss those feelings and ask you, the viewer, a question in return: [...]

June 7, 2012 in RISE Worldwide

Peace and blessings to Baton Rouge’s finest, The dope. Game, for all their continued success and their growing fan base. If you’ve been to this site for any extended period of time then this brand shouldn’t be new to you however, they’ve changed their approach for releasing product since the last time I posted anything from them. Instead of relying on the a set seasonal pattern or store accounts desires to determine what products they release, The dope. Game has decided to release what they want, when they want. The result? You can expect new gear from the Louisiana based brand every two months or so. PLUS because there’s no middle man, you can also expect some smaller price points ($23 for a tee vs. $32 in the store) as they’ve decided to pass the savings on to you. How nice of them! I like that direction. Why sit on an awesome design if you have both the ability to put it out and consumers willing to buy it? Now, this isn’t something EVERYONE should try but for the few that could get away with this–I honestly believe that it’s worth the effort. Below are some shots of what they’ve [...]

May 24, 2012 in RISE Worldwide

My homie Grant of Simply Complicated Apparel and SCKNOWS Media (TEXAS STAND UP!) sent me this video and I had to share it with y’all, especially because before today–no lie–I had NEVER heard Emilio Rojas‘ voice. Not just “I’ve never heard his music“, I mean I’ve NEVER HEARD HIS VOICE. Seriously. Even though he has a crazy internet buzz and a bubbling following (especially overseas) I just never took the time to check buddy out. Plus I feel as if I hang with a group of people that have never diverse tastes in music and not ONE TIME has anyone ever said “Yo, you checked that new Emilio Rojas joint!?!” For whatever reason, his music hasn’t infiltrated my circle of associates yet. After this interview though, I’ll have to Youtube this guy–his comments were very insightful and a breath of fresh air considering that most up-and-coming rappers regurgitate sound bites from off 106 & Park in their interviews. Consider my interest piqued. Thanks Grant.

    • Holla Fashion Has Good Music, Too Bad There Aren’t Any Clothes.

May 18, 2012 in RISE Worldwide

No shots but when you visit the website for Holla Fashions, you see two things–well actually THREE things: TWO music videos that I assume are in place as promos for the brand and ONE message “12.2.11 A DAY TO REMEMBER“. Now because I don’t know buddy behind the brand and I don’t know his personal situation, I’m not going to murder him for implying that his clothing would be ready to sell by Christmas of last year. Does it look bad? Hell yeah it does but that’s neither hear nor there because that’s not what this post is about. Besides, maybe they DID release that shirt already and it sold out. See, now if that IS the case and I go off on them–I’d look like a total douche. Anyway, the two promo videos I mentioned are actually pretty dope. One is from a dude named Case Arnold while the other is from a guy named Michael Marxx (he’s from Memphis). In fact, he’s the only reason I even know that Holla Fashion even exist. If it wasn’t for his unsolicited email (his management OBVIOUSLY didn’t read my post about WHY YOU SEEN THE SAME BRANDS ON EVERY BLOG–but it’s all good, [...]
